Call for Submissions – Get Lucky: An Anthology
Get
Lucky
is an anthology of everything Filipino in Singapore, exploring and celebrating
the themes of family, faith, friendship, love, and of course, the place that
cuts across the lives of Filipinos in Singapore: Lucky Plaza. It seeks to
provide a glimpse of the Filipino’s life in Singapore, using the 24-hour
slice-of-life approach, intersecting with Filipinos’ frequently visited places
as signposted by major MRT stops.
We
are looking for original poetry, short fiction, and personal narratives that
tackle these themes, preferably set against an MRT station as a backdrop, from
Filipinos based, or previously based, in Singapore.
Submission
Guidelines:
1. Contributions must be in English and must not have been
published elsewhere, in print or online.
2. Short fiction must be between 1500 and 2500 words;
personal narratives must not exceed 1500 words; and poetry contributions must
be a maximum of 40 lines.
3. Poetry submission is limited to three poems per
contributor.
4. Submissions must be in MS Word format—Times New Roman
font size 12
5. Submissions must come with a cover note that includes the
contributor’s full name, contact information, and 50-word bio.
Send your submissions to getlucky.anthology@gmail.com with the subject line “Get Lucky submission”. Deadline for submission is October 31, 2014. Contributors will get a free copy of the book.

- Manuelita Contreras-Cabrera
Manuelita is a journalist/editor and until recently was the deputy editor of a financial magazine based in Singapore, where she now works full time as a senior analyst. While the bulk of her writing portfolio is in business, finance, and features, she dabbles in fiction writing and has published short stories in the Philippines.
- Migs Bravo Dutt
Migs is a writer based in Singapore, and has contributed to several Singapore publications including SingPoWriMo Book Anthology, Ceriph Literary Journal, several issues of Expat Living Annual Travel Guides and Monthly Magazine, and Metta Charity Association newsletter. She is a member of British Council/Birkbeck College's Write Forward Class of 2011, and has attended the Iceland Writers Retreat 2014. Migs is formerly Regional Consumer Insights Director for a multinational corporation but has taken personal time off to focus on her writing.
- Eric Valles
Eric’s poetry has been featured in & Words, Reflecting on the Merlion, Ceriph, Southeast Asian Review of English, Routledge’s New Writing: The International Journal for the Practice and Theory of Creative Writing and other journals. His critical essays have appeared in The Asiatic and Writing Diaspora. He has won a Goh Sin Tub Creative Writing prize for poems that will form the core of the soon-to-be-published After the Fall (dirges among ruins). He has a previous poetry collection, A World in Transit.
